Tribute & Message From The Family

Ruby "Peggy" Lawson
94, passed away on Thursday April 5, 2018. Ruby, also known to many as Peggy, was born on August 7, 1923 in Lowell Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents Keith and Phebe Dinwiddie, her siblings, Robert, Norman, Betty (Donaldson) and "like a brother," Garland Fish. She was also preceded by her husband, G.P. Lawson from Guntersville, Alabama. Ruby is survived by numerous Nephews and Nieces, cousins and family friends. Ruby was an alum of the 1942 class of Lowell High School. Upon graduation, she enlisted in the Waves and served as a secretary in the U.S. Navy. She was the first woman veteran to join the Lowell Legion Post in 1944. It was during her service that she met and married G.P. Lawson, also in the Navy. They were married Nov. 4, 1944. After being honorably discharged, they lived in Crown Point, Valparaiso and eventually became long term residents of Mesa, Arizona. In recent years, Ruby was a resident of Huntsville, Alabama. She enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, learning, nature, reading, caring for her citrus trees and had a great passion for historical records and genealogy. Ruby was proud to be a descendent of three of Lowell and Lake County's Pioneer Families: The Dinwiddie, Kenney and Tilton Families, as well as the Lawson Family in Alabama. She inherited many records from her Grandparents and parents and carried on with their research and preservation: writing and updating these family records, many of which can be found on file at the Lowell Public Library. Visitation, Monday, April 9, from 11-12, followed directly by Graveside Services in Lowell Memorial Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Lowell Historical Society or The Lowell Public Library.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Candle

One of my fondest memories of my childhood was visiting Aunt Peggy and watching planes in the sky under the lemon trees with her and my grandmother. And the salt water taffy. I love you Aunt Peg I'm sorry I didn't say it sooner.

So many memories of our family with Aunt Peggy and Uncle GP. She was able to live a long and full life, but not so much after Uncle GP passed away. She missed him so much. Love......great-niece, Cynthia (Cindy) Rice
